There are also two landing sites for paragliders where they can glide high above the Kaiserwinkl during beautiful sunshine and in close proximity to the valley station.
Good to know: Kössen is THE pioneer location for paragliding in Austria and known far beyond the borders of the country. It’s not only the competition site for the European championship but also the training location of many top athletes of the flying scene.
Paragliding on the Ötscher
Ready for take-off
The Ötscher offers several options to take off – quite literally. A ride with the chairlift to the Schutzhaus and a short ascent take you to the most popular starting location on the Hüttenkogel. Once up in the air, you’ll be in a state of awe!
Numerous summits of the Mostviertel region surround you during your flight over the mountains. Add to that the amazing views of the neighbouring resort of Hochkar, the Gemeindealpe and the surrounding lakes. Fantastic and definitely worth trying!
Walk and fly on the Ötscher: From multiple sides, additional hiking routes lead up the mountain and towards the Ötscher’s summit at 1,893 metres above sea level. Once you’ve reached the summit, you can take off and glide over the roofs of the Mostviertel region – with exceptional thermal uplift!

Paragliding in Hinterstoder
Free as a bird in Upper Austria

The flight training school in Hochkössen offers trial lessons for your first tandem flight. You don’t just want to brush up your flying skills but get a pilot’s license? You can do both at the flight training school.
Be it in winter or in summer – in Kössen, you can pursue your paragliding passion no matter the season. At 1,500 metres above sea level, you can take off from the summit right next to the Bärenhütte and then glide over the roofs of Tyrol.
